Welcome to Newnham! I’m Vera Chapiro, your Women’s Officer for Easter 2016-Lent 2017! My job on the JCR is to support and represent all female and non-binary students of our college, and tackle all forms of institutionalised discrimination that you might face in our college and university. I work in tight collaboration with the CUSU Women’s Campaign, the main representative body and campaigning body for women in the university.
My role includes:
- Organising consent workshops in Fresher’s Week
- Providing support and (limited) personal guidance on feminist issues and personal questions. if you need a chat, please don’t hesitate. I’m always here to listen and provide support, non-judgmentally and confidentially.
- Keeping you updated on the work that the Women’s Campaign does, and getting as many people involved in feminist activism in our university.
- Taking care of the JCR Women’s Collection in our Library.

I also have a Women’s Officer pigeonhole, where you can send me anonymous notes if you need sexual health supplies or rape alarms – just write down what you need and I will leave everything in the Women’s Officer pidge for you to pick up later.
Again, welcome to Newnham, it’s such a special college, with a history but also many peers to be proud of! I’m looking forward to meeting all of you!
